Dignitas is a professional esports organization with a storied history, founded in the United Kingdom in 2003 by Michael "ODEE" O'Dell. The organization originated from the merger of two prominent "Battlefield 1942" clans, quickly establishing a reputation for tactical excellence and teamwork. O'Dell, a former Quake 3 pro player, leveraged his experience to build the organization from the ground up, focusing on a player-first philosophy. This foundation propelled Dignitas to early success, setting the stage for its evolution into a global esports entity.

A significant turning point in the company's trajectory occurred in September 2016, when it was acquired by the Philadelphia 76ers, an NBA franchise owned by Josh Harris and David Blitzer. This acquisition marked one of the first instances of a traditional North American sports franchise entering the esports market. Following the acquisition, Dignitas was consolidated under Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment (HBSE), a new holding company that also manages the New Jersey Devils (NHL) and other sports and entertainment properties. In 2019, Dignitas merged with Clutch Gaming and formed a new parent company, New Meta Entertainment (NME), backed by investors including HBSE, Fertitta Entertainment, and Susquehanna Private Capital. The organization, now headquartered in Newark, New Jersey, underwent a rebrand in 2018, shortening its name from "Team Dignitas" and adopting a new owl logo.

Dignitas operates as a competitive esports team franchise, generating revenue through tournament winnings, sponsorships, and partnerships. The business model involves fielding professional teams in some of the most popular esports titles, including "League of Legends," "Counter-Strike: Global Offensive," and "Rocket League". The organization has a history of major achievements, including winning the "Rocket League" Championship Series Season 5 World Championship in 2018 and multiple IEM Katowice titles. Its women's "Counter-Strike: Global Offensive" roster has also secured back-to-back championships at the GIRLGAMER Esports Festival. By competing at the highest level, Dignitas attracts a global fanbase and secures lucrative partnerships and naming rights deals, such as the 2021 agreement with digital bank QNTMPAY for its "League of Legends" teams.
