Digital Assets Data was established in 2018 by brothers Mike and Ryan Alfred, who previously co-founded and sold the 401(k) data tracking firm BrightScope. They aimed to create the equivalent of a Bloomberg for the cryptocurrency market, providing institutional-grade data and research tools. The venture attracted $9.2 million in funding from notable investors, including Ric Edelman, Mariner CEO Marty Bicknell, and Carson Wealth CEO Ron Carson.

The company focused on developing enterprise-grade software and data feeds for a clientele that included crypto hedge funds, family offices, institutional investors, and other professional market participants. Its platform was engineered to deliver sophisticated tools and high-quality information to support investment tracking, due diligence, and trading decisions in the digital asset space. The core of the business was to supply data-driven organizations with the necessary intelligence to navigate the complexities of the crypto market.

In a significant milestone, Digital Assets Data was acquired by NYDIG, a provider of Bitcoin investment and technology solutions, in January 2021. The acquisition was intended to enhance NYDIG's platform by integrating the advanced data, research, and analytics capabilities developed by the Alfreds and their team. Following the deal, Mike and Ryan Alfred joined NYDIG, with Mike taking on the role of head of mergers and acquisitions and Ryan becoming the head of product. The transaction underscored the increasing need for enterprise-grade data infrastructure as institutional interest in Bitcoin and other digital assets grew.
