DeliveryEdge, which previously operated under the name LicketyShip, was a San Francisco-based entity founded in 2004 by Chris Kelly. The company has since ceased operations.
The venture originated after securing a win at a Notre Dame business plan competition, leading to its official launch in 2006. DeliveryEdge entered the logistics market to address the complexities, reliability concerns, and high costs often associated with arranging local courier services. The firm's operational focus was on providing a same-day, door-to-door delivery platform.
Initially, the service was structured as a delivery solution for online retailers. However, in March 2007, the company adjusted its business model to also accommodate general local business deliveries and urgent personal package shipments. The service was geographically limited to metropolitan areas within California. A core component of its offering was its patent-pending software, designed to automatically identify and select the most suitable courier for each specific delivery job.
From a funding perspective, DeliveryEdge successfully raised a total of $1.81 million through two separate financing rounds. The initial seed funding round occurred on September 13, 2005, securing $309,000. This was followed by an angel round in July 2007, which brought in an additional $1.5 million.
