In 1986, from a spare bedroom in Houston, Jim and Valerie Britton launched Deepwater Corrosion Services. Their focus was on a relentless and expensive problem for the offshore energy industry: corrosion. The company developed and manufactured cathodic protection systems, essentially creating shields against rust for critical, high-value assets like oil platforms, pipelines, and wind turbines sitting in harsh marine environments. The business established itself as a leader in designing, building, and installing these specialized systems. For decades, Deepwater grew by focusing on this niche but vital service, extending the life of multi-million dollar infrastructure. A pivotal moment came in December 2018 when the subsea services giant Acteon Group acquired Deepwater. This move was designed to integrate Deepwater's specialized corrosion expertise into Acteon’s broader portfolio of managing subsea infrastructure. Following the acquisition, in 2019, founder Jim Britton handed the CEO reins to his son, Timothy, ensuring a continuation of the family's leadership within the new corporate structure. The story took another turn in early 2025. In a strategic shift, Acteon divested the company, and Deepwater's management completed a buy-out backed by an investment group. This brought the company full circle, returning it to standalone operation while retaining its market-leading position in the ongoing fight to protect the world's offshore assets from the forces of nature.
