Day Software

Day Software was a Swiss enterprise content management (ECM) software company founded in 1993 in Basel, Switzerland. The company developed and sold a range of products centered around content management, digital asset management (DAM), and social collaboration. Its core offerings included Day Communiqué, a web content management system (WCM), and Day CRX, a content repository that implemented the Java Content Repository (JCR) API standard.

The company was a significant contributor to open standards, particularly through its CTO, David Nuescheler, who was instrumental in defining the JSR-170 and JSR-283 standards for Java content repositories. Its flagship product, later known as CQ5, was built upon its CRX repository and the open-source Apache Sling web framework, positioning itself as a platform for building web experiences. Day Software served a prominent client base of large global corporations, including Volkswagen, Daimler, General Motors, McDonald's, and Hyatt.

On July 28, 2010, Adobe Systems announced its intention to acquire Day Software for approximately $240 million. The acquisition was completed on October 29, 2010. Following the acquisition, Day Software was integrated into Adobe's Digital Enterprise Solutions Business Unit, and its technology became a foundational component of what is now known as Adobe Experience Manager (AEM). Day's CEO, Erik Hansen, joined Adobe to continue leading the product line. The company was officially delisted from the SIX Swiss Exchange and ceased to exist as an independent entity, with its successor becoming Adobe Research (Schweiz) AG in 2014.
