Dashen Brewery Share Company Ltd is an Ethiopian brewing company founded in 2000 in Gondar, Amhara Region. It was established with an initial capital of 340 million birr.
The company is a significant player in the Ethiopian beer market and operates breweries in Gondar and Debre Birhan. Dashen produces a range of beers, including its flagship Dashen Beer, as well as a royal beer and draught beer. The company caters to consumers over the age of 18 across Ethiopia and has previously exported to countries including the United States and Israel.
Ownership is a joint venture between the UK-based firm Vasari Global and the Ethiopian endowment fund TIRET Group. This partnership was formed in 2012 when London-based Duet Group and Vasari acquired a majority stake, aiming to expand Dashen's production and distribution capabilities. This investment facilitated significant growth, including the inauguration of a new plant in Debre Birhan in 2015, which tripled the brewery's capacity. In 2022, the company announced a 1.7 billion birr expenditure for further expansion of its Gondar and Debre Birhan plants, increasing its annual production capacity from 3.2 million to 4.4 million hectoliters.
Dashen Brewery was the first brewery in Ethiopia to receive ISO 9001 (Quality Management) and ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) certifications. The business model focuses on producing quality beer for the local market, with a commitment to waste reduction and environmental management. Revenue is generated through the sale of its beverage products via a wide distribution network across Ethiopia.
