The story of Andel Energi is not one of a typical startup, but of consolidation and cooperative power. Its roots go back over a century with the founding of regional Danish energy companies like Sydsjællands Elektricitets Aktieselskab (SEAS) in 1912 and Nordvestsjællands Elektricitetsværk (NVE) in 1913. These entities were formed with a mission to provide electricity to their local communities. For decades, they operated independently, building the foundational energy infrastructure in their respective parts of Denmark. A significant turning point came in 2005 when SEAS and NVE merged to form SEAS-NVE. This created a much larger, customer-owned energy company. This cooperative structure, where the customers are also the owners, is a core part of its identity. The new entity continued to grow, expanding its services beyond just electricity to include fiber-optic broadband and energy consulting. The modern Andel Energi began to take shape through a major strategic acquisition. In 2019, SEAS-NVE acquired the residential customer business and the electricity distribution network of Radius from energy giant Ørsted for a substantial sum. This move significantly increased the company's scale. Following this, in 2020, the company rebranded from SEAS-NVE to Andel, a name reflecting its cooperative heritage. Today, as a key part of the Andel group, Andel Energi is Denmark's largest energy company, serving over 1.2 million customers with a focus on green transition and renewable energy solutions.
