The story begins in 1964, a period of significant development in Spain. Manuel del Portillo y catalán saw an opportunity in the construction sector. He founded Derivados Asfálticos Normalizados, S.A., or Danosa, with a clear mission: to manufacture and commercialize products for waterproofing and thermal and acoustic insulation for buildings. The initial focus was on asphaltic sheets, a core product for waterproofing. This was the foundation upon which the company would build its reputation for quality and reliability. From its early days, Danosa was a family-owned business, a characteristic it would maintain for decades, embedding a long-term vision into its DNA. A significant chapter in Danosa's journey was its expansion. What started as a Spanish enterprise grew to have an international presence, with its products being used in construction projects across Europe, North Africa, Asia, and Latin America. This growth was not just geographical but also in its product portfolio, expanding to offer comprehensive solutions for sustainable construction. In a pivotal move in 2024, the French multinational construction materials company, Soprema, acquired Danosa. This event marked a new era for the company. While it signaled the end of its long history as a family-owned business, it integrated Danosa into a larger global group, providing new resources and market access to further its mission of building better, more sustainable structures.
