The story begins in 1935, in the midst of a tough economic climate in Britain. A young man, Leonard H. Dale, decided to start his own business, Dale Electric, with his father's blessing. The country was in the process of shifting from DC generating plants to AC mains electricity, creating a demand for house wiring conversions, an opportunity Leonard quickly seized. With strong ties to the local farming community, he specialized in farm wiring, building a reputation for his determination and craftsmanship. What started as a one-man operation, initially supported by his soon-to-be wife Doris Smithson handling finances, grew steadily. By 1968, the company made a pivotal move by acquiring Erskine, a firm founded by research scientist John Ellis, which propelled Dale into the uninterruptible power supply (UPS) market. This set the stage for the company to become a key provider of secure power solutions for critical services around the world. A significant chapter in the company's journey unfolded in 2012, when the private equity firm LDC backed a management buyout of Dale Power Solutions from TT electronics for £10.5 million. This was followed by another management buyout in 2018, this time backed by NVM Private Equity with a £9 million investment, aimed at further developing their core business and expanding into the renewable energy sector. More recently, in April 2025, Dale Power Solutions acquired its long-term partner Calibre Power Electronics, strengthening its expertise in the offshore oil and gas sector.
