Dada Room was established in 2012 as an online platform focused on the shared housing market in Latin America. The company operated as a community marketplace where users could list available rooms and connect with potential roommates in a social and engaging environment. Its target demographic was young adults seeking independent housing solutions.
The venture gained early traction by participating in prominent accelerator programs, including Wayra México and Start-Up Chile, which provided initial funding and support. This strategic backing enabled Dada Room to expand its footprint across several key Latin American markets, including Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, and Peru. By 2018, the platform had grown to serve over 800,000 users across numerous cities in the region.
In August 2018, Dada Room was acquired by its US-based counterpart, Roomi, for an undisclosed amount. The acquisition was a strategic move by Roomi to double its user base and strengthen its global position in the shared accommodation market. Following the acquisition, the two companies began a process to integrate their teams and platforms. The transition was finalized in January 2021, when the Dada Room brand was officially consolidated under the Roomi name, with its website redirecting to roomiapp.com, to provide users with a unified global platform for finding rooms and roommates.
