Culineer is a social content platform developed by Harrisburg-based What's for Dinner Technologies, LLC, which was founded in October 2018. The platform was conceived by founder and CEO Jodi Frank, a former executive with a background in B2B sales for Fortune 500 companies like Bristol Myers Squibb and 3M. The idea originated from Frank's personal frustration with the disorganization of saving and finding recipes across various formats, from magazines to websites. This led her to envision a digital solution where users could save recipes as easily as scanning a business card.
The business operates as an interactive platform designed for home cooks, allowing them to digitize, manage, and share their personal recipe collections. Whether the recipes are handwritten family heirlooms or found on cooking blogs, the app functions as a centralized digital recipe box. A key feature is the ability to make recipes shoppable, initially linking to Amazon Fresh and with plans to integrate regional grocery stores. Coding for the app began in 2018, and it was fully launched by September 2020.
Over time, the company's mission expanded beyond simple recipe storage. After consulting with farmers and agricultural experts, Frank realized the app could bridge a knowledge gap between local food producers and consumers. Culineer evolved to become a community-focused platform where local farmers can connect directly with home cooks, share information about seasonal ingredients, and provide culinary education. This pivot addresses the challenge consumers face when cooking with fresh, seasonal ingredients from local sources. The platform now includes a directory of local farmers, initially focused on the Mid-Atlantic region, and facilitates interaction within this community.
