In 1979, Ian Quinn co-founded Creganna in Galway, Ireland, as an engineering outsourcing company. Initially serving the IT hardware industry, the company pivoted in the 1990s to focus exclusively on medical devices by 2003. This strategic shift set the stage for Creganna to become a critical partner for the world's leading medical device companies. The company specialized in designing and manufacturing minimally invasive delivery and access devices, such as high-performance catheter shafts and wire-based components. Instead of selling finished products to end-users, Creganna operated as an outsourced design and manufacturing partner for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). This model allowed them to become a trusted expert, with their technology eventually being used in a majority of vascular catheters. A key chapter in Creganna's story began in 2010 when it was acquired by private equity firm Permira Funds. This led to a period of significant global expansion and strategic acquisitions. The playbook culminated in a major liquidity event in 2016 when TE Connectivity, a global industrial technology leader, announced it would acquire Creganna for approximately $895 million. The acquisition established TE Connectivity as a leading supplier in the high-growth minimally invasive medical device market, integrating Creganna's specialized engineering talent and manufacturing capabilities into its broader portfolio.
