Cosm Immersive
Cosm's content production and distribution division combines the virtual and physical worlds to create engaging 'Shared Reality' experiences.
Cosm operates as an experiential media and immersive technology company, providing end-to-end solutions for what it terms "Shared Reality." The company was formally established in 2020 following a series of acquisitions by Mirasol Capital, the private equity arm of the Winn Family Office. These acquisitions brought together several industry pioneers: Evans & Sutherland (E&S), a leader in computer graphics and planetarium technology; Spitz, Inc., a top manufacturer of planetarium domes and custom projection screens; LiveLikeVR (now Cosm Immersive), a specialist in live immersive sports production; and C360, an immersive video solutions company. The name "Cosm" is a blend of "Cosmos" and "Colosseum," reflecting its heritage in space education and its mission to create large-scale communal entertainment events.
The company's leadership team is spearheaded by CEO and President Jeb Terry, a former NFL player and Fox Sports executive. Terry's journey from professional sports to entrepreneurship, including founding StraightCast Media (acquired by Fox Sports) and exploring early NFT projects, has shaped Cosm's strategy of merging sports, media, and technology. He is joined by founder Steve Winn, Chairman of the Board, whose firm Mirasol Capital was instrumental in the company's formation. In July 2024, Cosm announced a significant funding round of over $250 million to fuel global expansion.
Cosm's business model is multifaceted, addressing three main verticals: Sports and Entertainment, Science and Education, and Parks and Attractions. A primary revenue stream is ticketed entry to its public venues, which are designed to offer a premium, social viewing experience that complements live events. The company has established partnerships with major sports leagues and broadcasters, including the NBA, UFC, ESPN, NBC Sports, and TNT Sports, to present live events in immersive 8K+. For its traditional clients, Cosm continues to be a core provider of technology and services to over 800 planetariums and science centers worldwide.
The core of Cosm's offering is its proprietary CX System, a full-stack solution that includes the physical design, engineering, and manufacturing of its venues. The centerpiece is a large-format LED dome, typically 87 feet in diameter, capable of displaying content in 8K+ resolution. This technology, which combines the company's Digistar 3D rendering engine with real-time processing and Unreal Engine integration, creates a seamless, floor-to-ceiling visual environment. This "Shared Reality" experience is designed to bridge the virtual and physical worlds, allowing large groups to feel as if they are physically present at events happening elsewhere. Cosm operates its own production and distribution division, Cosm Immersive, which handles live 8K streaming and content capture for its venues, VR headsets, and mobile applications. The company opened its first public venues in Los Angeles and Dallas in the summer of 2024, with plans for further expansion in cities like Atlanta and Detroit.
