In 1997, as the internet era was gaining momentum and global financial markets were becoming increasingly interconnected, Chris Pilling founded Complinet in London. By the late 2000s, Complinet was a significant player in the emerging Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) sector, serving over 1,900 firms across 81 countries. The pivotal moment in the Complinet story arrived in June 2010. Thomson Reuters, the global information giant, saw the increasing importance of the compliance market and moved to acquire the company. The acquisition was a strategic play to establish a leadership position in the fast-growing GRC space. For Complinet, the deal represented the next logical step, allowing its vision to be realized with the backing and global footprint of Thomson Reuters. The move integrated Complinet into a much larger ecosystem, providing an end-to-end compliance solution for a vast customer base.
