In 1990, Communication Technology Services (CTS) was founded in Marlborough, Massachusetts. The company started with a focus on general contracting and structured cabling, building a foundational expertise in project management. The business evolved to address a growing need for in-building wireless connectivity. CTS became an integrator for major wireless service providers, designing and deploying thousands of distributed antenna systems (DAS) in large venues like stadiums, airports, hospitals, and corporate campuses across North America. A significant turning point came in February 2020, when CTS received a major equity investment from Astra Capital Management, a private equity firm specializing in the communications and technology sectors. This partnership was designed to help CTS scale its operations and enhance its leadership position as the demand for in-building cellular coverage became increasingly critical with the emergence of 5G technology. Following the investment, CTS expanded its capabilities further. In January 2021, the company acquired ClearSky Technologies, an innovator in managed services for private LTE and 5G networks. This acquisition positioned CTS to offer a more comprehensive suite of services, combining its nationwide deployment expertise with ClearSky's specialized network solutions to meet the growing demand for private wireless networks.
