Comminent is a deep-tech startup founded in 2018 by Amarjeet Kumar and Vikas Kashyap, who both have backgrounds in the communications industry. The company's product portfolio includes a standards-based communications platform comprised of RF (Radio Frequency) mesh modules, NIC cards, edge gateways (DCUs), and a network management software stack (CommNMS and CommHES). This integrated system is designed to provide secure, high-throughput, and self-healing connectivity for urban and rural environments, positioning itself as a more reliable and lower-operating-cost alternative to legacy systems. The business model focuses on providing these hardware and software solutions to industries, utilities, and businesses involved in infrastructure projects.

Comminent's primary market focus is on smart metering, including electricity, water, and gas, and it plans to expand into smart street lighting and other intelligent infrastructure management applications. The company is a key technology provider for India's national smart meter program, which aims to install 250 million units. As of August 2025, Comminent had secured contracts to deliver over one million endpoints and recently raised $2 million in funding from Transition VC to scale its technology, enhance manufacturing automation, and expand operations. The company is targeting revenues of ₹300 crore (approximately US$36 million) by fiscal year 2028 and is exploring international expansion into markets like the United States and Japan.
