Comfortcharge GmbH, a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom AG, operates as a developer and operator of electric vehicle charging networks across Germany. Established in 2017 and headquartered in Bonn, the company emerged from the Telekom Innovation Pool with the objective of establishing a robust charging infrastructure to support the growth of e-mobility. Comfortcharge leverages Deutsche Telekom's existing infrastructure, such as property, power connections, and data lines, to efficiently and sustainably expand its network of public fast-charging stations. This strategic approach allows for resource-friendly development in both urban and rural areas.
The company's core business involves the end-to-end management of the entire charging station lifecycle, from planning and installation to long-term operations and maintenance. Comfortcharge functions as a Charge Point Operator (CPO), managing the physical hardware and ensuring high availability, while the contractual relationship for electricity provision is with e-mobility providers (EMPs) who bill the end-users. Its business model also includes offering its comprehensive management platform as a white-label solution to other charging providers and creating custom infrastructure for corporate fleet operators. The technical backbone of its operations is the 'Ambika' platform, a modular system from T-Systems based on ServiceNow, which enables automated data exchange and management of all lifecycle phases.
Comfortcharge provides a network of both AC (alternating current) and DC (direct current) fast-charging stations. Its public network features high-power charging (HPC) stations with outputs of 150-200 kW, ensuring rapid charging times for EV drivers. By the end of 2022, the company was operating over 172 fast-charging stations and has continued to expand, with over 240 locations active. All public charging points supply 100% certified green electricity. In addition to its public network, Comfortcharge implements corporate charging solutions, such as the 'Charge@Work' project for Deutsche Telekom employees, supporting the electrification of one of Germany's largest corporate fleets.
