In the heart of Prague, a new approach to cybersecurity was born. Cognitive Security was founded by Martin Rehak and emerged from research conducted at the Czech Technical University. The company wasn't just another security firm; it focused on using artificial intelligence and behavioral analysis to detect complex cyber threats that traditional methods were missing. Their software was designed to analyze real-time data to spot anomalies and identify security threats as they happened. In April 2011, Cognitive Security secured $1.4 million in a Series A funding round from investors including Credo Ventures, Evolution Equity, and RSJ Private Equity. This capital injection was crucial, enabling the company to build out its sales team and expand into international markets, which led to a fifty-fold increase in revenue. A major turning point for the company arrived in January 2013, when the global technology giant Cisco announced its intention to acquire the Prague-based startup. The acquisition, which was completed in the third quarter of 2013, saw Cognitive Security's team integrated into Cisco's Security Technology Group. Cisco's goal was to combine its own cloud-based threat intelligence with Cognitive's real-time behavioral analytics to create a more robust, intelligent, and proactive defense system against the evolving landscape of advanced cyber threats.
