CoFluent Design, acquired by Intel Corporation in 2011, specialized in system-level modeling and simulation tools for the electronics industry. The company provided a platform that allowed embedded device and chip designers to create, validate, and optimize new concepts and architectures before committing to hardware or software development. Its flagship product, CoFluent Studio, enabled the generation of SystemC transactional models from graphical representations and standard C code. This facilitated the design of complex multi-core and multi-OS systems commonly found in consumer electronics and telecommunications.
Founded in 2003 as a spin-off from INRIA, the French National Institute for Research in Computer Science and Control, CoFluent Design was established by Vincent Perrier, who served as CEO, along with co-founders Jean-Paul Calvez and Zouheir Maalej. The company's tools were used throughout the product development lifecycle for innovation, architecture optimization, and real-time behavior validation. By modeling and simulating system behavior early in the design process, customers could explore different architectures, predict performance, and ensure their designs met functional and power efficiency requirements. Following its acquisition, the team and technology were integrated into Intel's Software and Services Group, with the goal of enhancing Intel's own system-level modeling and simulation capabilities.
