Cloudify operates as an open-source, multi-cloud orchestration platform, providing what it terms 'Environment as a Service' (EaaS) technology. This model is designed for DevOps teams and cloud architects to manage workloads, software containers, and other components across varied IT environments. The platform specializes in automating the deployment, configuration, and remediation of applications, allowing technical teams to manage deployments on AWS, Azure, GCP, and Kubernetes from a single access point. By doing so, it enables an effortless transition to public cloud and cloud-native architectures.
The company was spun out of GigaSpaces Technologies in 2017, with its headquarters in Herzliya, Israel, and offices in the US and Europe. The founders include Nati Shalom, who also served as the CTO, Ariel Dan, and Zeev Bikowsky. Shalom, a serial entrepreneur who also co-founded GigaSpaces, has extensive experience in building large-scale software for multi-cloud and edge computing. In January 2023, Dell Technologies acquired Cloudify for an estimated $100 million to bolster its edge computing and cloud service offerings. Prior to the acquisition, Cloudify had secured $7.9 million in funding from investors including Intel Capital, VMware, BRM Group, and Claridge Israel.
Cloudify's platform allows organizations to package infrastructure, networking, and existing automation tools like Terraform and Ansible into certified blueprints. These blueprints enable users to deploy and continuously manage heterogeneous cloud and Kubernetes environments through a central console or by integrating with ITSM platforms like ServiceNow. This integration bridges the gap between DevOps and IT service management (ITSM), facilitating a more unified workflow. The platform's key features include multi-cloud management, infrastructure automation, support for hybrid cloud, network automation, and auto-scaling capabilities based on workload demands. The business model included both a free, open-source community version and tiered subscription plans for enterprise clients, offering features like high availability and integrations with VMware and Kubernetes.
