Climate cars

Climate Cars was a private hire car service operating in London that utilized a fleet composed exclusively of hybrid and electric vehicles. Founded in 2007 by Nicko Williamson, a University of Bristol graduate, the company positioned itself as an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional black cabs and minicabs. Williamson conceived the idea after his time at university and launched the business at the age of 23. The company's business model focused on pre-booked journeys, available via telephone or online, including a dedicated iPhone app released in 2012.

The service catered primarily to corporate account holders, which constituted around 90% of its revenue, serving clients like Unilever alongside environmentally conscious celebrities. Customers could also pay by cash or credit card. The fleet was mainly comprised of Toyota Prius hybrids, later expanding to include fully electric Renault Fluence vehicles, chosen for their significantly lower emissions compared to London's black taxis. To enhance the customer experience, vehicles were equipped with leather seats, and complimentary Belu mineral water was provided.

The company secured initial funding from family and friends, followed by a £300,000 angel investment and an additional £200,000 from Clydesdale Bank in 2011 to expand its fleet. By 2013, the company operated approximately 150 vehicles. In 2015, Climate Cars was acquired by its larger competitor, Addison Lee, as a strategic move to expand Addison Lee's fleet while lowering its average vehicle emissions.
