Clap Global is an educational platform that facilitates cultural exchange by connecting international travelers with students in local classrooms. The company was co-founded in 2015 by Shirin Johari, a former creative director, and Aarti Chhabria, an education entrepreneur. The idea originated from Johari's travel experiences and a desire to dismantle cultural stereotypes from a young age. The business operates by matching travelers with classrooms in India through an automated tech platform, allowing them to share stories and engage in meaningful conversations with students.
The company's program, 'Travellers in Classrooms', has hosted travelers from 129 countries in schools across 14 Indian cities. This initiative is integrated into the schools' 'Global Competence' curriculum. Clap Global also developed its own 15-level curriculum, validated by educationists and advisors from various international organizations. The platform aims to foster a more compassionate and understanding generation by exposing children to diverse cultures through personal interactions.
Clap Global received initial seed funding and a six-month incubation from the government of Chile in 2015. It has also been funded by Round Glass Partners and received a grant from Edupreneur Village in 2019. The company has paused operations since the COVID-19 pandemic.
