Chushou TV, operated by Hangzhou Kaxun Technology Co., Ltd., was a mobile-focused game live streaming platform headquartered in Hangzhou, China. Launched in July 2015, the company established itself as one of the first platforms in China dedicated to mobile game broadcasting. The platform was founded by Cao Jian'gen, who served as CEO, and Li Qiang, who acted as COO. Li Qiang had previously been the China marketing director and senior product director at ArcSoft, a technology company with roots in Silicon Valley.
Chushou TV's core business was providing a platform for gamers to live stream their mobile gameplay directly from their phones, a feature that set it apart from competitors who were primarily focused on PC gaming at the time. This focus allowed Chushou to capture the burgeoning mobile esports market, particularly gaining traction with popular games like *Honor of Kings*. The platform's audience consisted of viewers who could watch live streams, interact with streamers through a bullet-screen chat system, and send virtual gifts. Revenue was generated through these virtual gifts, from which the platform took a percentage.
The company experienced rapid growth and attracted significant investor interest. It raised a total of approximately $265 million over five funding rounds. Notable financing rounds included a $120 million Series D led by Google in January 2018, marking a rare investment by the tech giant in a Chinese startup. Other prominent investors included GGV Capital, Shunwei Capital, Qiming Venture Partners, and iQiyi. At its peak, Chushou claimed to have 90 million registered viewers and 8 million streamers, with around 250,000 daily live streams. However, the company faced intense competition from larger,腾讯-backed platforms like Douyu and Huya. Financial difficulties, including an inability to secure further funding after 2018, led to issues such as withholding salaries from streamers. In mid-2020, Chushou TV ceased operations, with its website and app becoming inaccessible. Following the shutdown, there were arrangements for some of its top streamers to move to the competing platform Kuaishou.
