China Guardian Auctions Co., Ltd. is mainland China's first auction house specializing in the auction of Chinese artwork. Founded in May 1993 by Chen Dongsheng, it is the country's oldest art-auction firm. Chen, a prominent figure among the "Class of 92" entrepreneurs who left government or research roles for business, previously worked at the Development Research Center of the State Council before establishing China Guardian. He also founded Taikang Life Insurance in 1996.

The company's business model is centered on generating revenue from commission fees on transactions, and it asserts that it does not purchase and resell artworks. China Guardian is particularly known for sales of Chinese calligraphy and ink paintings, which constitute approximately 60% of its sales. Its auction categories also include porcelain, furniture, sculptures, rare books, jewelry, and watches. Initially focused on the mainland Chinese market, the company expanded its operations globally, establishing a wholly-owned subsidiary in Hong Kong in May 2011 and holding its first auction there in Autumn 2012. It now has a significant international presence with offices in North America and other parts of Asia, including Taiwan and Japan.

Throughout its history, China Guardian has achieved significant milestones, including numerous record-breaking sales. Notable auctions include the sale of an 11th-century letter by Zeng Gong for 207 million yuan in 2016 and Qi Baishi's "Pine and Cypress," which sold for 425.5 million yuan in 2011. By November 2012, it was reported to be the world's fourth-largest auction house. The firm holds major Spring and Autumn auctions, in addition to its quarterly auction series.
