The National Data Centre for Distant-water Fisheries of China is a state-level fishery data platform authorized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the People's Republic of China and constructed by Shanghai Ocean University. The center's primary responsibilities include the collection, compilation, storage, sharing, and management of data from China's distant-water fishing industry. This service supports the scientific management, decision-making, research, and international treaty compliance for the nation's ocean fisheries.

Functioning as a comprehensive service platform, it began implementing vessel position monitoring in stages starting in 2007 to align with international fishery management trends and enhance maritime safety. The system provides vessel position monitoring, historical tracking, statistical analysis, and manual position reporting. The platform has been continuously upgraded to cover all distant-water fishing vessels, increasing the frequency of position reporting and improving functions like data collection, key area monitoring, and boundary-crossing alerts. It is part of a broader effort to modernize China's distant-water fishery infrastructure, which started in 1985.

The data center is organized into several working groups focused on specific fisheries, such as tuna, squid, large trawlers, Antarctic krill, and saury, as well as groups for marine environment and remote sensing data, and IT.
