Caturus is an integrated natural gas and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) company with a strategy to deliver low-emission fuel from U.S. sources to global markets. The company was formed in August 2025 following a strategic equity investment from Mubadala Energy, the Abu Dhabi-based energy firm, into Kimmeridge's SoTex HoldCo, which was subsequently rebranded as Caturus. This investment marked Mubadala Energy's entry into the U.S. market, securing a 24.1% equity stake in the venture.
Caturus was established by the private equity group Kimmeridge, co-founded by Ben Dell, through the combination of two of its key investments: the natural gas driller Kimmeridge Texas Gas (now Caturus Energy) and the Commonwealth LNG export project. The company's leadership includes CEO Dave Lawler, former Chairman and President of BP America, who previously led Kimmeridge Texas Gas. The executive team also features Bryan Gunderson as Chief Financial Officer and Brian Cain as Chief Corporate Affairs Officer.
The company's business model integrates upstream natural gas production with downstream LNG export capabilities, described as a "wellhead-to-water" approach. The upstream operations, Caturus Energy, are focused on drilling high-pressure gas wells in Texas, with production surpassing 600 million cubic feet equivalent per day (MMcfe/d). The long-term goal is to increase production to supply its downstream operations. The downstream component is the Commonwealth LNG project, a 9.5 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) export terminal being developed in Cameron, Louisiana. Caturus has secured 20-year offtake agreements with major global energy players like Glencore, JERA, and PETRONAS for a significant portion of the terminal's planned capacity.
