Casetabs, now operating as HST Case Coordination, provides a cloud-based software solution designed to streamline surgical scheduling and communication for ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs).

The company was founded as Casetabs in 2014 by Gavin Fabian, who drew on his experience as a product manager at medical device company NuVasive and as the founder of another digital health startup, MedPassage. Recognizing a need for improved efficiency and communication in surgical settings, Fabian developed a central, cloud-based hub for coordinating procedures. The platform facilitates real-time information sharing among surgeons, anesthesiologists, clinical staff, physician offices, and medical device representatives. By November 2020, Casetabs had grown to serve over 800 ASCs and 3,000 physician practices.

In November 2020, Casetabs merged with HST Pathways, a provider of practice management software for ASCs, in a deal supported by a majority investment from Bain Capital Tech Opportunities. This merger followed a partnership that began in 2019, which involved integrating Casetabs' scheduling application into HST's software. In June 2021, the Casetabs product was officially rebranded as HST Case Coordination, becoming fully integrated into the HST Pathways software suite.

The business operates on a subscription-based model, targeting ASCs, hospitals, and physician practices. Its core service, the HST Case Coordination platform, is a HIPAA-compliant application that automates scheduling and communication. Key features include smart scheduling to optimize operating room utilization, digital surgery boards with customizable views for different departments, secure chat functions, and patient communication tools for sending reminders and uploading documents like IDs and insurance cards. The platform aims to reduce case cancellations, minimize administrative workload from manual tasks like phone calls and faxes, and improve overall operational efficiency and patient care by ensuring all parties have access to the most current case information.
