In 1995, the German private nursing home market was fragmented. This presented an opportunity, and Casa Reha was founded to build and acquire senior care facilities. The company's strategy was clear: grow through new construction and targeted acquisitions of other operators. This playbook proved effective, with early purchases of the Pro Vita and Sozialkonzept groups in 1998 and 2007, respectively, helping to expand its footprint across Germany. The real inflection point in Casa Reha's journey came through the world of private equity. In 2005, the financial investor Advent International acquired the company to finance its next expansion phase. This capital injection fueled significant growth. Just two years later, in a secondary buyout, British private equity firm HgCapital purchased a majority stake from Advent, which retained a minority share. Under new ownership, the expansion strategy continued. By 2015, the company was operating around 70 homes with over 10,000 beds. This scale made it a valuable asset. The final chapter of its independent story was written in late 2015 when the French operator Korian acquired Casa Reha. This move was part of Korian's major push into the German market, making it a dominant player in the European care sector. Casa Reha became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Korian's German arm in early 2016.
