Carrot Credit is a Nigerian fintech company founded in 2023 by Boluwatife Aiki-Raji that provides a digital lending platform. It targets the African market, allowing retail investors to access credit by using their digital assets as collateral without liquidating them. The platform enables users to borrow against a variety of financial assets, including stocks, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), government bonds, and cryptocurrencies.
The company operates on an embedded B2B2C business model, integrating its services with digital wealth managers, brokerages, and other fintech applications. This strategy allows it to offer credit within platforms that users already trust. Carrot's core service provides a line of credit, offering up to 40% of the value of a user's stock portfolio and up to 70% for fixed-income assets. Rather than relying on traditional credit scores, the platform connects to users' investment accounts via APIs to verify holdings and place a lien on the assets, while the user retains ownership. Revenue is generated from interest payments on loans, which are offered at below-market rates.
Founded with the idea of turning digital investments into viable collateral, Carrot has shown early traction, having processed over $2 million in loans for more than 10,000 users. In 2025, the company secured $4.2 million in a seed funding round led by MaC Venture Capital, with participation from Partech Africa and Authentic Ventures, to enhance its credit infrastructure and expand its operations across Africa.
