In 1969, while the tech world was still in its infancy, Larry Wells and David Norman left SRI with a vision to create a dedicated technology market research firm. They founded Creative Strategies, one of the first firms to analyze the burgeoning tech landscape. Their early work focused on emerging trends like mini-computers. A notable early project involved a summer intern named Trip Hawkins, who wrote a seminal report on personal computers that caught the attention of a young Steve Jobs. The firm underwent its first major change in 1974 when Wells sold it to Business International, a global consulting firm. A pivotal figure, Tim Bajarin, joined in 1981 as one of the world's first PC analysts, just as that market was about to explode. Bajarin's influence grew, and in 1992, he acquired the company himself, shifting its focus from broad market research to specialized strategic consulting for top technology companies. Under Bajarin's leadership, the firm became a trusted advisor to a significant portion of the Fortune 500's top tech companies. It cemented its legacy as a quiet but influential force shaping the industry. In 2021, a new era began as Tim Bajarin transitioned leadership to his son, Ben Bajarin, who took over as CEO, with longtime analyst Carolina Milanesi becoming President, ensuring the firm's continued influence for the next generation of technology.
