Carmore is a mobile application for car rental and sharing, providing real-time price comparison and booking services. The service is operated by its parent company, TeamO2, which was founded on September 24, 2015, by Hong Seong-ju and Seong Jang-geun. Hong, a former game developer and CEO of a Kakao games subsidiary, launched Carmore in 2018 after identifying a need for digital innovation in the fragmented rental car market.
The platform operates as an O2O (Online-to-Offline) marketplace, connecting users with a network of small and medium-sized rental car companies. Its business model is based on charging a commission on bookings made through the app. To support its partners, many of whom previously relied on manual systems, Carmore provides a free management software called 'Carmore Partners'. This system helps operators manage reservations, vehicle status, and sales, thereby improving their operational efficiency.
Initially launched in Seoul and Jeju Island, Carmore has expanded its services nationwide in South Korea and internationally to over 71 countries, including Japan, Guam, Saipan, the US, and various nations in Europe. The platform offers short-term rentals, long-term monthly rentals, and has recently expanded into a comprehensive mobility and travel platform by adding KTX train and hotel booking services. This expansion was facilitated by the acquisition of B2B travel agency Hikari Global.
