Capscion
Acquiring small-cap machinery and engineering firms.
Capscion is an investment company focused on the acquisition of small-cap companies within Germany's machinery and engineering sector.
The firm was co-founded by Dr. Hanno Schmidt-Gothan and Marc Schmidt. Dr. Schmidt-Gothan has a background in investment and operations management, having been a founding partner at Perusa and holding positions at Orlando Management, Accenture, and McKinsey & Company. He holds an MBA and an M.Sc. in Management from the MIT Sloan School of Management, a Master's in Chemical Engineering from the MIT School of Engineering, and a PhD in Business Administration from the University of Potsdam. Marc Schmidt brings experience from the medical device industry, where he was a product manager at Guidant Corporation, and in finance as a derivatives trader for Societe Generale. He earned an MBA from the University of Chicago and a BS in Engineering from the University of Washington.
Capscion's business model centers on acquiring and developing small, established companies in the highly fragmented German "Mittelstand" of the machinery and engineering industry. It targets businesses with succession challenges, providing a long-term ownership and development perspective rather than a typical private equity fund's fixed-term investment horizon.
