Formerly known as Canal Dstak, Gira operates as a B2B marketplace application, connecting fashion wholesalers, primarily from São Paulo's Brás district, with retailers across Brazil. The company was founded in June 2020 by Lucas Chita (CEO), Vinicius Fernandes (COO), and Marco Túlio Moraes Korehisa. The founders' familiarity with the retail sector, with Chita's grandmothers being retailers themselves, provided foundational insights into the market's challenges. Gira aims to digitize and streamline the traditionally cumbersome and cash-heavy procurement process for small and medium-sized entrepreneurs.
The platform serves retailers by offering a single point of access to a wide array of products from hundreds of verified suppliers, initially focusing on apparel and later expanding to include jewelry, cosmetics, and footwear. This model addresses several key pain points for retailers who would otherwise need to travel, carry large amounts of cash, and handle expensive, fragmented shipping from multiple vendors. Gira centralizes this process; orders from various suppliers are sent to the company's distribution center, where they are consolidated and dispatched, resulting in significant shipping cost reductions of up to 75% for the client.
Revenue is generated through the platform's transactions. For retailers, Gira offers a "buy now, pay later" financing option, a crucial service for businesses that often lack access to traditional credit, with repayment terms of up to six months. This financial service provides an additional revenue stream through interest rates. In November 2021, the company, then Canal Dstak, announced a seed funding round of R$14 million (US$2.6 million) to expand its team and onboard more wholesalers from a waiting list. The company was later acquired or merged in January 2024 and rebranded to Gira.
