Canada's Tech Network, formerly the Canadian Digital Media Network (CDMN), is a network of innovation hubs across Canada that supports technology companies. Originally established in 2009 as a federal Centre of Excellence in Commercialization and Research (CECR), the organization rebranded in March 2021 to better reflect its expanded mission of supporting a wider range of tech-driven firms beyond just digital media. The network was founded by Communitech in the Waterloo Region to connect tech companies with resources across the country.
The organization operates as a community of backbone organizations within regional innovation ecosystems, connecting 28 innovation hubs from coast to coast. Its primary client base consists of mature startups and small- to medium-sized technology companies seeking to scale and expand into international markets. The network provides access to mentorship, capital, customers, and talent. A key offering is the Soft Landing Program, which helps Canadian companies expand internationally by providing financial assistance for travel and accommodation, and connections to new markets, partners, and investment opportunities. This program has facilitated companies entering markets in 63 countries and has reportedly led to significant new revenues and investments.
The network is led by Communitech and has evolved from its initial focus on digital media to become a significant part of Canada's broader innovation infrastructure. This strategic shift was highlighted by the rebranding in 2021, which aimed to more accurately represent the network's work in supporting diverse tech firms as they grow and compete globally. The network's programs are supported by the Government of Canada.
