Imagia is a healthcare artificial intelligence company that develops radiomics biomarkers and clinical decision support systems. The company was founded in 2015 by Alexandre Le Bouthillier and Nicolas Chapados, with a mission to use AI to advance and accelerate accessible personalized medicine. The co-founders' motivation was deeply personal, stemming from Le Bouthillier's loss to cancer, which drove them to apply their expertise in AI and optimization to medicine. They collaborated with deep learning pioneer Professor Yoshua Bengio to assemble a team of experts in AI, research, and clinical fields.
In November 2017, Imagia acquired Cadens Medical Imaging, a leader in medical imaging software for cancer care since 2008. This acquisition was funded by a Series A financing round and aimed to combine Imagia's deep learning expertise with Cadens' capabilities in clinical AI. The company's core platform, EVIDENS, is a collaborative ecosystem that pairs AI with clinical expertise. It enables hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, and medical device manufacturers to utilize healthcare data for discovery while preserving data privacy. The platform is designed to detect and quantify changes from cancer, predict patient outcomes, and identify disease-specific markers from imaging data.
In February 2022, Imagia merged with Canexia Health, an oncology innovator specializing in genomic-based molecular assays for cancer treatment selection and monitoring. The merged entity, known as Imagia Canexia Health, raised $20 million CAD to enhance access to precision oncology. The goal was to integrate patient clinical and genomic data to enable more effective treatment decisions. However, 18 months after the merger, in August 2023, Imagia Canexia Health filed for bankruptcy.
