In 1976, long before the internet was in every home, Cadec was founded with a focus on innovating within the trucking industry. The company developed fleet management solutions, providing technology that enabled private fleets to connect with their trucks and drivers. This included on-board computers and software to monitor driver performance, vehicle status, and delivery details in real time. Cadec became a pioneer, introducing industry firsts like federally certified automated driver logs and systems that interfaced with engine control modules and GPS. The company's journey involved several ownership changes. In 2006, a new entity, Cadec Global LLC, was formed by investment firms to acquire the original Cadec Corp, aiming to leverage its nearly three decades of experience. Then, in 2011, the investment firm BlackBern Partners, founded by Ian Black and Jon Bernstein, acquired Cadec Global. Bernstein took the helm as CEO, with the goal of growing the business by building on its strong product and loyal customer base. The final chapter for Cadec as an independent entity was written in May 2015. PeopleNet, a Trimble-owned company, acquired the assets of Cadec Global. The acquisition was a strategic move to combine Cadec's expertise in back-end analytics and business intelligence with PeopleNet's mobile platforms. This allowed them to enhance their offerings for the foodservice and private fleet industries, focusing on safety, compliance, and cost reduction.
