BuyWander Inc. is an online auction retailer specializing in the resale of returned retail goods. Launched in February 2024, the Spokane, Washington-based company addresses the logistical and environmental issues of retail returns by purchasing truckloads of items from various retailers and reselling them to consumers at a significant discount. The business model is centered on an online auction marketplace where customers bid on inspected, new, or like-new products. Bidding for each item starts at $1 on a 24-hour, no-reserve auction. Revenue is generated from the sale of these goods, with the company reporting a monthly revenue of $370,000 in March 2025 and an average order value near $80.
The company was founded by serial entrepreneur Jordan Allen, along with co-founders Brock Kowalchuk and Matt McGee. Allen previously founded the vacation rental company Stay Alfred and the real estate bidding platform Doorsey. Kowalchuk, who serves as co-CEO, brings operational and financial expertise from his time as CEO of the e-commerce company Kaspien. McGee is an expert in supply-chain logistics with previous experience at Overstock.com, Wish.com, and Maersk. This leadership team combines experience in entrepreneurship, e-commerce, and logistics.
BuyWander's process involves using AI and other technology to scan, sort, and identify products for resale. After a manual quality check, items are photographed and listed on the company's website. To manage logistics costs, the company does not offer shipping; instead, customers who win auctions pick up their items curbside from the company's warehouses. In addition to online auctions, the warehouses also operate as bin stores where customers can search for deals. The company has demonstrated rapid growth, moving through four warehouses in under a year to accommodate its expansion and processing six semi-trucks of merchandise per week as of April 2025. In April 2025, BuyWander raised $2 million in a seed funding round led by Triple Impact Capital to support its expansion, including opening a new 30,000-square-foot warehouse in Kent, Washington.
