Building Energy S.p.A. is an integrated independent power producer (IPP) that develops, constructs, and manages renewable energy projects globally. Founded in 2010 by Fabrizio Zago and Paolo Venturi, the Milan-based company has expanded its operations from solar projects in Italy to include a diversified portfolio of wind, hydroelectric, and biomass power plants across Europe, Africa, the Americas, and the Middle East. Notable projects include a 10 MWp solar plant in Torre Santa Susanna, Italy, and a 30 MW wind farm in Iowa, USA.
The company operates by selling the electricity generated from its green energy sources through long-term power purchase agreements with local utilities. In 2018, Aretex Capital Partners acquired a majority stake in Building Energy. Subsequently, in 2020, the company's U.S. holdings, including 62 MW of operational assets and a development pipeline, were acquired by Novis Renewables Holdings, a partnership between Falck Renewables and Eni New Energy US Inc., for $32.5 million.
Building Energy is also involved in research and development, with a dedicated team focused on enhancing the efficiency and reliability of renewable energy systems and developing new energy storage solutions. The business model centers on developing, financing, owning, and operating renewable energy assets.
