BuddyBroker AG operated as a human capital services firm, specializing in a digital, recommendation-based recruiting platform. Founded in Zurich, Switzerland, in 2012 by Flurin Müller and Patrick Mollet, the company aimed to streamline the employee referral process. The firm's core offering was a software product named "eqipia," which automated and digitized the traditionally manual and time-consuming task of sourcing candidates through employee networks.
The eqipia ReferralManager was designed for corporate HR departments. Its primary function was to analyze employees' professional networks, such as their XING profiles, using a matching algorithm to identify suitable candidates for open positions. The platform could then automatically contact these potential candidates, providing them with job details and facilitating the referral. This process offered companies access to qualified candidates more efficiently and at a lower cost compared to conventional recruiting methods. For the HR departments, the tool provided transparent reporting on the success of referrals and included options for managing bonus payments for successful hires. BuddyBroker's clientele included prominent Swiss companies like Migros, Swisscom, SBB, and Zühlke.
In April 2016, the German professional networking company XING AG (now New Work SE) acquired BuddyBroker for an initial purchase price of CHF 3.2 million, with a potential earn-out payment of up to CHF 4.8 million based on performance goals. Following the acquisition, the entire seven-person team, including founders Müller and Mollet, were retained to continue driving the product's development within the XING organization, integrating the technology to enhance XING's recruiting solutions.
