British Solar Renewables (BSR) is an integrated solar developer, contractor, and operator of utility-scale solar and energy storage projects. The company was founded in 2010 by Angus Macdonald and is headquartered in Somerset, United Kingdom. Macdonald, who has a background in financial publishing and various business interests including renewable energy, served as a director until July 2016.
BSR manages the entire project lifecycle, from development (BSR Energy) and construction (BSR EPC) to operations and maintenance (BSR O&M) for clients including developers and investors in the UK and Australia. The company has successfully developed and built over 700MWp of solar PV and has more than 364MW under management. Its services encompass project development, engineering, procurement, construction (EPC), electrical connections, and asset management. The business generates revenue through the development and sale of renewable energy projects, as well as providing long-term operational and maintenance services. BSR's portfolio includes some of the largest solar parks in the UK, such as the 72.2MW Shotwick solar farm and the 69.8MW Bradenstoke solar farm.
In July 2022, BSR was acquired by ICG Infra, the infrastructure fund of global alternative asset manager ICG, with the aim of transitioning BSR into a leading Integrated Power Producer (IPP). The existing management team, led by CEO Tim Humpage, remained as shareholders. Humpage joined BSR in 2014 as Head of EPC and was appointed CEO in 2019, bringing over two decades of international experience in construction and civil engineering. Under the new ownership, BSR aims to have over 1.5GW of renewable capacity in operation within five years. The company has also expanded into battery energy storage systems (BESS), having built over 120MW of storage capacity and acquiring projects like the 150MW Little Crow solar project which is co-located with a 60MW battery system.
