BreconRidge, founded in 2001 by Terry Matthews, operated as a provider of electronics manufacturing services. The company's name was derived from the Brecon Beacons, a mountain range in Wales, reflecting the founder's practice of naming companies after geographical locations from his childhood area.
The firm catered to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in the communications, industrial, and consumer market sectors. Its business model was centered on providing a comprehensive suite of services that included design, process and test engineering, component sourcing, global procurement, and supply chain management. BreconRidge also handled manufacturing, order fulfillment, distribution, and after-sales support, which encompassed product repair, refurbishment, and warranty tracking. The company developed specific expertise in transmit/receive (TR) modules, radio frequency (RF) subsystems, micro-electronic packaging, multi-chip module integration, and opto-electronic integration.
On May 28, 2010, BreconRidge was acquired by Sanmina-SCI, a prominent electronics manufacturing services provider, in a transaction valued at US$53 million. The acquisition was intended to bolster Sanmina-SCI's capabilities in the RF/microwave and micro/opto-electronic domains by integrating BreconRidge's engineering team and manufacturing operations. At the time of the acquisition, it was anticipated that BreconRidge would add approximately $250 million to $300 million in revenue for Sanmina-SCI in the subsequent year. Following the acquisition, BreconRidge continued to operate as a subsidiary of Sanmina-SCI.
