Brasserie Pietra

Brasserie Pietra is a Corsican brewery established in 1996, marking the inception of the island's first-ever brewery. The venture was founded by the husband-and-wife team, Armelle and Dominique Sialelli, both beer enthusiasts who conceived the idea in 1992 out of a desire for a native Corsican beer. The name "Pietra" is a tribute to Pietraserena, the Sialelli family's home village. Despite facing initial skepticism and the challenge of a declining beer market in France, the founders persevered, custom-building equipment and securing initial funding from family to launch the brewery.

The company operates in the craft beer market, producing and distributing a range of beers and soft drinks. Its business model centers on creating beverages that are deeply connected to the Corsican terroir, using local ingredients to appeal to both a local and international consumer base. Distribution has expanded from Corsica to mainland France and other countries, including the United States and Japan. The brewery also engages in direct-to-consumer sales and offers tours at its facility in Furiani.

Brasserie Pietra's flagship product is the Pietra beer, an amber ale with a 6% ABV, uniquely brewed using a blend of malt and Corsican chestnut flour. This signature ingredient, treated as a cereal in the brewing process, imparts a distinctive flavor with notes of honey and a subtle bitterness. The product line has grown to include Pietra Bionda, a premium blonde ale; Colomba, a white beer infused with herbs from the Corsican maquis like juniper and myrtle; Pietra Rossa, a red ale with fruit flavors; and Corsican IPA. The brewery also produces organic and gluten-free options, a line of barrel-aged beers, and non-alcoholic beverages like Corsica Cola.
