BrainCreators, an Amsterdam-based company founded in 2016, develops AI-powered digital inspection software designed to automate visual inspection tasks across various industries. The company's inception was the realization of a long-held ambition for its founders—Jasper Wognum (CEO), Gerbert Kaandorp, and Peter Eijk—who first met in 1995 while studying AI at the University of Amsterdam. Their journey began in earnest years later, after identifying that technology had finally caught up with their ambitions. Before establishing BrainCreators, the trio collaborated on LookLive, an AI-driven fashion platform, which served as a stepping stone to applying their expertise to sectors where automation could have a more significant impact.

BrainCreators operates on a business-to-business model, providing its software to clients in sectors such as infrastructure, manufacturing, and transportation to enhance productivity and efficiency. The core of its offering is the BrainMatter platform, an intelligent automation system that enables domain experts, without needing a background in data science, to transfer their knowledge to a machine, thereby creating a "digital inspector". This platform supports various data formats, including images, video, and sensor data, and is delivered as a hybrid cloud service or on-edge. The company generates revenue through its specialized software products, with an estimated annual revenue of $8.1 million. Since its founding, BrainCreators has secured $2.13 million in funding over three rounds, including grants from the European Union and EIC Fund, and a seed round in December 2022.

The company's flagship products, INSPECH and SEAGULL, are now operating as independent entities to better focus on their respective markets. INSPECH serves as a digital assistant for road inspectors and maintenance managers, transforming road footage into a dynamic digital twin. This allows for the automatic detection and classification of pavement defects, streamlining maintenance planning and reducing the need for manual, in-the-field surveys. To ensure the product’s real-world applicability, BrainCreators partnered with Unihorn, an engineering firm specializing in infrastructure, combining AI leadership with deep domain expertise. SEAGULL is a SaaS solution for the maritime sector that uses existing camera infrastructure to monitor harbor traffic 24/7. It automatically identifies vessel types, logs entry and exit times, and alerts operators to potential safety violations, thereby enhancing port security and management. SEAGULL was developed in collaboration with the port of Scheveningen and Bosch Energy & Building Solutions.
