In 1985, founders Herb and Sloan Myers started Boxlight, a company that quickly became a notable name in projection and display technology for a range of sectors including business and government. For over two decades, it built its reputation in presentation hardware. A significant shift began around 2009 when the company, under the new leadership of Hank and Sunshine Nance, pivoted to focus specifically on the K-12 education market. A key chapter in the company's story started in 2016 with the acquisition of Mimio, an educational technology firm founded by MIT students. This move signaled a new strategy: growth through acquisition. This was followed by a string of purchases, including Qwizdom, EOS Education, and Modern Robotics, steadily building a comprehensive suite of classroom tools. The company's ambitions culminated in a major milestone on November 30, 2017, when Boxlight went public on the NASDAQ, raising $7 million in its initial public offering. The capital infusion fueled further acquisitions, most notably the $94.9 million purchase of UK-based Sahara Presentation Systems in 2020, which brought the popular Clevertouch brand into its portfolio and significantly expanded its European footprint. Through this deliberate strategy of acquiring and integrating various technologies, Boxlight has pieced together an end-to-end solution for the modern classroom, combining interactive displays, software, STEM tools, and audio systems.
