Borderless AI is a platform in the Employer of Record (EOR) sector that utilizes generative AI to automate and accelerate the processes of onboarding, managing, and paying international employees. The company helps businesses hire talent in over 170 countries without the need to establish a local legal entity, handling local contracts, payroll, taxes, and compliance.
The company was founded in December 2022 by Matthew Bond and Jonathan Raphael, who met at the Entrepreneur First accelerator program. The idea emerged after they identified significant staffing shortages in the UK's care sector, where providers struggled to hire from overseas due to complex, costly, and high-risk recruitment, immigration, and compliance procedures. To address this, they built a technology platform to streamline international hiring and sponsorship.
Borderless AI targets organizations of all sizes, from startups to global enterprises, across various industries. Its business model is based on providing a suite of services, including EOR, global payroll management, and contractor management. A key feature is its AI agent, Alberni, which can automate processes and provide answers to complex HR questions, significantly reducing the time required for tasks like creating employment contracts. The platform also offers a proprietary payment infrastructure for faster payroll processing without requiring upfront salary deposits, which enhances cash flow for its clients.
The company has achieved significant milestones, securing a £2.5M investment in May 2023 and a UK government contract in March 2024. By summer 2024, it was working with over 300 organizations and had supported more than 2,000 individuals with sponsorship. Another entity, also named Borderless AI, was co-founded by Willson Cross and Sean Aggarwal and raised $27 million in a seed funding round in March 2024, followed by a $5 million extension in January 2025.
