Bocom Trust, formally known as Bank of Communications Trustee Limited, is the trust entity of the Bank of Communications Co., Ltd. (BoCom). There are two distinct entities operating under a similar name: one based in Hong Kong and another in mainland China (Wuhan).
The Hong Kong entity, Bank of Communications Trustee Limited, was founded in 1981. It is a wholly-owned subsidiary of BoCom, one of China's oldest banks. This entity has over four decades of experience in trust and retirement scheme management. As of December 31, 2023, it managed assets of approximately HK$700 billion. Its services include retirement and pension plans (MPF and ORSO), private trust services like wealth and estate planning, corporate custodian services, and nominee services for both local and cross-border clients. It also offers custody services for various investment schemes such as QFII, RQFII, QDII, and the Bond Connect program, positioning itself as a key service provider for international investors in the mainland Chinese market.
The mainland China entity, Bocom International Trust Co., Ltd., was originally established in June 1981 as Hubei Province International Trust and Investment Company. In 2007, it was strategically restructured with Bank of Communications acquiring an 85% stake, with the remaining 15% held by the Hubei Provincial Department of Finance (later transferred to Hubei Transportation Investment Group Co., Ltd.). It was the first trust company in China to be directly controlled by a major state-owned commercial bank. This company provides a range of financial services, including wealth management, project financing, and trustee services across multiple markets. Its offerings cover asset management trusts like fixed-income products and private equity, as well as wealth management services that leverage the unique ability of trust companies in China to operate across capital, industrial, and money markets.
