The story begins in 1954 when hydrographer Ole H. Blom founded Blom ASA in Norway. The company established itself as a key European provider of geographical information, specializing in services like aerial photography, mapping, and creating 3D models from the data it collected. This expertise allowed them to capture and process vast amounts of geospatial data, serving government and enterprise clients. By 1988, the company was publicly listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange. A significant turning point came in 2012 when the global technology firm Hexagon AB acquired a 25% stake, recognizing the growing importance of high-quality geospatial information. However, the company's trajectory was set for an even bigger change. In 2015, Blom ASA merged with two other firms, Team Bane and Svensk Järnvägsteknik, to form a new entity called NRC Group, which focused on infrastructure. Blom continued as a subsidiary within this new structure. This evolution paved the way for the company known today as Field. The modern company, found at fieldgeo.com, emerged from a relaunch and rebranding, focusing on turning complex geospatial data into actionable insights for building and managing modern infrastructure. Now operating as Field, the company has expanded its services and acquired other technology firms like PrecisionHawk, continuing the legacy of mapping the physical world but with a renewed focus on digital transformation and data analytics.
