Blockport, established in 2017 by founders Sebastiaan Lichter, Zowie Langdon, and Kai Bennink, emerged from the Amsterdam tech scene with the goal of simplifying cryptocurrency trading for a broader audience. The founding team combined their expertise in technology and user experience to address the complexities that often deter newcomers from entering the digital asset market. Their vision was to create a platform that was both user-friendly and socially interactive.

The company developed a social crypto exchange built on a hybrid-decentralized architecture, which aimed to offer the security of decentralization alongside the user-friendliness of a centralized service. Blockport's core offering was an intuitive application designed as a one-stop shop for buying, selling, and storing a variety of cryptocurrencies. This eliminated the need for users to navigate multiple brokers, exchanges, and external wallet services, a common pain point for beginners.

A distinguishing feature of the platform was its social trading component.
