BlikBook operated as a social learning platform within the higher education market, designed to enhance interaction between students and lecturers. The company was founded in 2010 by Cheyne Tan, Barnaby Voss, Ben Hall, and Deepak Colluru, who were alumni of London Business School and University College London (UCL). The idea originated from the founders' own experiences with the inefficiencies of sharing academic questions and information through lengthy email chains. Their goal was to create a more streamlined process for students and faculty to interact outside of traditional lecture halls.

The platform provided a web-based service where students and lecturers could establish Q&A forums for specific courses. This allowed students to ask questions, some anonymously to encourage participation, and receive answers from both peers and faculty. Lecturers had the ability to highlight valuable answers and use an analytics dashboard to understand and improve student engagement with course materials. An intelligent notification system and learning algorithms helped deliver relevant content to students based on their and their peers' activity. The business model initially included affiliate links for textbooks, but the primary focus shifted to selling analytics services to universities.

BlikBook began as a UK-based company and participated in London Business School's incubator program. In 2011, the company secured an initial seed round of approximately $818,000 and brought on Rene Olivieri, former CEO of Blackwell Publishing, as Chairman. A significant milestone occurred in July 2013, when BlikBook raised $1.3 million in a funding round led by Leaf Investments, with participation from Delta Partners, Enterprise Ireland, and Forward Investment Partners. Following this investment, the company relocated its headquarters from London to Dublin to tap into the city's ed-tech talent pool. By mid-2015, the platform was reportedly used in a third of UK universities. In July 2015, BlikBook was acquired by Civitas Learning, a US-based predictive analytics platform, for an undisclosed amount.
