Despite its promising start and celebrity backing, BlackJet faced significant operational and financial headwinds. The company struggled with the logistical complexities of managing seat supply, ensuring consistent service quality, and achieving the critical mass necessary for its model to be profitable. After a few years of operation, the Florida-based company ceased all activities in May 2016, citing that challenges had stunted membership sales and made financing impossible to secure. In October 2024, the defunct BlackJet brand was acquired by Canadian aviation broker Jettly. Under the leadership of Jettly's CEO, Justin Crabbe, the brand was relaunched with a new business model, pivoting from by-the-seat sales to offering traditional, fixed-rate jet card programs.
